Key Benefits

Capabilities

Family support refers to the family members of individuals involved in a Critical Incident.  Here the family members themselves are not exposed to the event.  However, they can be traumatized secondarily by the reactions and responses of those involved.

Education

Informs family members that their loved one has been exposed to an Acute Trauma and educates them as to what are normal reactions, and what are not.

Support

By supporting the family and educating them, they are better equipped to understand and assist their loved one.

Decrease Distress

Seeing the change and hurt in a loved one is very distressful.  This is especially true if they are unsure what to do, or how to respond.  We also do not want a ripple effect to occur from the primary event.
