Montgomery County Critical Incident Stress Management Team |
|
All CISM Team members have been trained in courses approved by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation What training is
required? The basic CISM course, Group Crisis Intervention, is given under the auspices of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF). It is 16 hours over two days. Another basic course that is strongly encouraged is Individual Crisis Intervention, also 16 hours over two days. There are some courses that offer the two combined into a 3-day training. In addition, there will be approximately two training meetings annually lasting 3-4 hours each focusing on local issues and protocols. There are also advanced courses offered by ICISF with a variety of focuses that all members are encouraged to take to further develop their skills. FEMA standards also require courses (that can be taken on-line) related to the National Incident Management System. How much time is
required of a Team Member? Team members are required to attend quarterly meetings
and the Semiannual training workshops. Beyond
that team members can wait to be called or proactively become specialized in a
particular function of the team (e.g. education). Attendance at ICISF
training courses can substitute for some of these requirements.
