Capabilities
The Montco CISM Team is available on-scene for
major events that last more than a few hours. We will provide
services to both the emergency worker and the lay public and victims as
follows:
- Basic Needs
- We keep an eye on the need and provision of the basic human needs
of: water, food, shelter, clothing, sanitation, and
information. The lack of these basic needs greatly increases
stress levels in a major event or disaster. While we do not
operationally provide these services, we will work with appropriate
agencies to deal with issues as they arise. If not available, we
will do what we can to get them set up.
- Advice On Keeping People Functional
- There are many issues that we watch out for during an event.
Stress and fatigue levels are influenced by many factors. We
will advise incident command of suggestions to assist with keeping
people functional during these events.
- Decompression
- It is expected that everyone, both professional and not, at a mass
event will have their own breaking limit. Trained team members
circulate and when needed provide discreet brief encounters to allow
individuals to vent and thus decompress. Usually, after this
brief break, these affected individuals will return to their previous
activity.
- Assessment
- Our encounters on-scene allow us the opportunity to assess
individuals and groups. Also, we can be asked to do an
assessment. If we feel that the individual or group is too
dysfunctional to continue safely in the operation, we will advise
incident command of our concerns for their action.
- After Event Services
- When involved early, we can begin operational assessments and plans
for post event services. These include:
Demobilization
Crisis Management Briefing
- Defusing
Debriefing
